For more than fifty years, Eastex Title Company has been honored to help protect that history for the people of San Jacinto County.
Although Eastex Title Company was incorporated on January 31, 1969, its story reaches back much further. The company was founded when W. Floyd Clark and local attorney Robert Atkins purchased the San Jacinto County title plant from Elliott & Waldron Abstract Company and incorporated Eastex Title Company, Inc.
The title plant they acquired preserved records reaching back to the earliest days of Texas, making Eastex not only a title company, but also the steward of one of San Jacinto County’s most valuable historical resources.
The name Eastex was chosen with purpose. During the 1960s, businesses across the region proudly identified themselves with East Texas by using the name “Eastex.” From telephone companies to newspapers and other local businesses, the name had become synonymous with East Texas itself. It reflected the company’s commitment to the people and communities of the region and remains part of its identity today.
Clark and Atkins believed San Jacinto County deserved a strong, locally owned title company staffed by people who understood the county’s land records, its history, and the importance of protecting property rights. Their vision revitalized a struggling business and ensured that local property owners, lenders, attorneys, surveyors, and real estate professionals would continue to have experienced title services close to home.
More than half a century later, Eastex Title Company remains the only title company headquartered in San Jacinto County. While other title companies may examine and insure property within the county, Eastex continues to serve the community from within the community, carrying forward the vision upon which it was founded.
At the heart of Eastex Title Company is its title plant, a carefully indexed collection of county land records compiled over generations. More than a collection of documents, it serves as a historical map of property ownership in San Jacinto County, allowing title examiners to trace ownership through decades and often centuries of recorded history.
The records preserved within the title plant include Spanish land grants, Republic of Texas records, statehood-era documents, deeds, surveys, probate proceedings, easements, court filings, and other public records that together tell the story of land ownership throughout the county. Many of the original surveys still bear the names of the individuals who first shaped this region, names such as Robert Rankin, J. Davis, Henry Farley, Albert A. Foster, Drury McGee, Robert Kilgore, J. D. Martinez, and Sarah Goodnow. Those names continue to appear in title examinations today, connecting modern property owners with the earliest chapters of San Jacinto County’s history.
Over the decades, Eastex Title Company has assisted with tens of thousands of real estate transactions. From first homes and family ranches to timberland, commercial developments, subdivisions, churches, recreational property, and local businesses, the company has had the privilege of helping generations of East Texans through some of life’s most important milestones.

Today, Eastex Title Company remains privately owned by descendants of W. Floyd Clark together with longtime employees. While generations of the Clark family have helped preserve Eastex’s legacy, dedicated employees have played an equally important role in building the company’s reputation for integrity, professionalism, and personal service throughout San Jacinto County.
